at retail to home owners and do-it-yourselfers and sometimes  wholesale to builders and contractors.  These centers are almost one stop shops. The  acceptation is that these all in one stores often don't offer the best prices for many items such as lumber and other materials that contractors often need to use for larger projects. In addition the selection is limited to certain brands and certain suppliers for instance on paints, window coverings and carpets as well as many other items. They may carry rocks for landscaping for instance but you can never get the choice you would at a rock yard. They may carry lumber but certainly not al the types, the quantity or the favorable price for large quantity purchases one could find at a lumber yard. The may carry plumbing supplies but your local hardware store may carry parts for your particular faucet while the larger store will mainly have specific parts from specific suppliers. This, plus the fact that they are putting many smaller suppliers out of business is their disadvantage and down side.
